I read the book Black Holes Within Us in one breath, although it's a book that calls for many rereadings. It fascinates with the wisdom, the know-how and the need to disintegrate things down to a crystal and honest simplicity and put them in function of the great questions of existence, making them a priority for the harmony between counter-realities in order to achieve the fullness of love and indefiniteness of death. The title of Markoska’s first book of poetry (All Tributaries Flow Into My Basin, 2009) reveals to us that in the poetic riverbed of each type of poetry, tributaries from the reading experiences of the author can be seen which, in the case of this lyric, are not limited only to poetry or literature, but other arts (primarily music) as well.  Knowing Markoska’s experience with percussion instruments, it is not surprising that the musical semiosis dominates in the poems in Headfirst Toward the Heights (2012).

Vladimir Martinovski

It’s more than obvious that M.M. from Skopje has too much energy and too many talents. In her case, the real question is not ‘how’ but ‘when’? When does she manage, while constantly competing creatively with her own musical and academic engagements, to write in such a relaxed and humorous manner?
